- Gaga mocks her Joker sequel’s Razzie win, calling it a step toward an “EGORT.”
- The cold open parodies a fictional clash between Elon Musk and Marco Rubio in Trump’s Cabinet.
- Gaga jokes about her last SNL appearance in 2013, referencing pop stars’ ages and R. Kelly.
Lady Gaga made fun of her own movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, during her Saturday Night Live monologue. The pop star-turned-actress joked about her “serious” acting career and addressed the film’s poor reception.
“I’m an actor now,” Gaga said sarcastically. “I choose roles that showcase my craft, like Joker 2. Apparently, people thought it was awesome. Joaquin [Phoenix] and I even got nominated for a Razzie… So we won worst onscreen duo.”
She took the joke further, saying, “But jokes on them. I love winning things. My Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It’s like an EGOT, but it’s hurtful.”
The 38-year-old artist assured fans she would not return for a third Joker film, quipping, “Tonight, I promise to act, to sing, and to not do Joker 3.” The sequel to 2019’s Joker received seven Razzie nominations after flopping at the box office, ultimately winning for worst sequel and worst screen combo for Gaga and Phoenix.
Gaga also poked fun at how long it had been since she last hosted SNL in 2013. “The last time I hosted, I was 27. I’m 38 now, which is scientifically the best age for a female pop star,” she joked. “Chappell Roan is 58. Charli XCX, she’s 75. Tate McRae is my biological grandmother.”
She also referenced her controversial 2013 SNL performance with R. Kelly, who is now in prison for sex crimes. “The last time I hosted was in 2013, and every aspect of my performance aged amazingly,” she said with a smirk. “So there’s no need to Google ‘SNL 2013, Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly.’ I won’t bring it up because that would be bad.”
The SNL cold open parodied a fictional Cabinet clash between Marco Rubio, now U.S. Secretary of State, and Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Mike Myers played Musk, while James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump tried to resolve the dispute. “I can’t have you two at each other’s throats,” Trump said. “Everyone who’s ever worked for me has left on good terms and then gone on to write a book called The Man Who Ruined Everything.”
When Rubio (played by Marcello Hernández) criticized Musk’s government role, Myers’ Musk childishly responded, “I know you are, but what am I?” The skit ended with Trump conceding Musk’s power after he reminded him, “But I paid you $300 million.”
Lady Gaga has increasingly focused on acting, earning critical acclaim for A Star Is Born (2018), which won her an Oscar for Best Original Song. Joker: Folie à Deux marked her return to the big screen, but it failed to impress audiences.
This was Gaga’s second time hosting SNL. Her first stint in 2013 featured controversial moments, including a duet with R. Kelly. This time, she balanced humor with self-awareness, proving she can still own the stage—both as an artist and comedian.
